Bandaging and Dressing
1.) What is a bandage and bandaging?
- A bandage is a piece of material used to support a medical device such as dressing or splint. It is also used to restrict a part of the body. And bandaging on the other hand, is another home treatment that a home nurse or caregiver should administer to their patient.
2.) Where are bandages used for?
- Bandages are used for binding up wounds or other injuries and controlling bleeding in a particular area.
3.) How is Bandaging done?
- Bandaging is done with these simple steps:
* Hold the bandage with the roll uppermost and start to roll around the wound upwards. For every turn, use a firm even pressure.
* With each turn, cover two-thirds of the width of the previous one. Avoid covering the tips of the fingers and toes. Fasten the bandage with a small safety pin or a bandage clip.
4.) Why is an adhesive dressing important?
- An Adhesive Dressing is an important type of dressing because this is a small pod of gauze with a water proof adhesive backing, which is perforated to let the moisture to evaporate. It is in paper and plastic container.
5.) When are simple spiral, figure eight, figure (8) eight spiral, and the three triangular bandages patterns be used in administering bandaging to a patient?
- There are patterns of bandaging that should be followed by the home nurse in administering bandaging to a patient:
* Simple spiral- used when the part of the body to be bandaged is of uniform size like a finger or forearm.
* Figure eight- applied starting below the wound and progressing up and encircling the limb in a figure of "8" pattern.
* Figure (8) eight spiral- used for a flexed joint like a knee or an elbow.
* Three Triangular bandages: 1) For hand injuries, 2) For chest and back injuries and 3) For upper limb injuries.

Making the bed and Bathing the patient :'))
Making a Bed
1. Why do we need to know how to make an unoccupied and occupied bed?
- We need to know how to make both an unoccupied and occupied beds to maintain the cleanliness of the patient, to avoid the patient from feeling uncomfortable and of course to monitor if there are some discharges of the patient to have a report of it to the doctor.
2. How does making a bed help in the fast recovery of our patient?
- We know that cleanliness is one way of helping the patient recover fast. So, when we know how to make the bed, we can haelp the patient maintain the cleanliness of their surrounding.
3. As a good home nurse, how will you be able to render your services to your patient through bed making?
- As a good home nurse, I could render my services to my patient through bed making so that my patient won't be in thought of making her feel uncomfortable. I could so that he/she will be insecure always.
Bathing the Patient
1. Why do you need to give a bath to the patient?
- I need to bath the patient to relax, refresh, and cleanse the patient. Also, to stimulate the blood circulation of the patient's body, to serve as a form of exercise and to aid the elimination of certain wastes in the body of the patient.
2. What are the materials needed for bed bath or sponge bath?
- We need to have two big and small towels, rubber sheet, a basin with warm water, soap and light blanket.
3. What’s the importance of using a urinal or bedpan?
- It is important because when the patient is said to be bedridden still for a long time, this would help them to eliminate wastes.
4. What do you mean by back rub?
- Back rub means refreshing the patient's back to make them feel comfortable all the time.
5. How do you differentiate cold compress from hot compress?
- Cold compress is an absorbent cloth dipped into a cold water the wrung out and applied to a body part to relieve pain or reduce inflammation or used as a comfort measure. While hot compress is the application of heat to a small area with hot gauze or hot compress cloth. This usually relieve pain and congestion.

Home Nursing Techniques; Signs & Symptoms of Illnesses & Diseases :))

If you are a good home nurse, what are the various home nursing
techniques that you need to apply that will make the patient feel
comfortable and speed up the recovery?
- If I am a good home nurse, I should be more careful of what I do every time so that I could help my patient feel comfortable and safe. I should also be more mindful of what is happening on my patient's condition. And also, I should be more observant to monitor the condition of my patient every after an hour.
- A home nurse should monitor the vital signs of the patient to have a record of what's the condition of my patient. And to keep them safe every time.
3. How do you take the body temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure of the patient?
- There are ways to take the temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure of the patient. To get the temperature of the patient, a home nurse should use a clinical thermometer. To get the pulse rate, a home nurse should use his/her two fingers (note that thumb is not allowed to be used) and place in various parts in the body namely: temple, wrist, ankle and throat. And to get the blood pressure of the patient, a home nurse could use the sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope.
4. What are some practices that the home nurse must follow that will promote comfort to the patient?
- A home nurse should practice self-confidence, cheerfulness, happiness, and carefulness to be able to check and monitor the patient's condition from time to time.
5. How will you differentiate signs from symptoms of illnesses and diseases?
- Signs are what a doctor sees and symptoms are what the patient is experiencing. So, signs may be also what doctor sees and what patient feels.
6. If you are the doctor, what will be your basis in giving the diagnosis for your patient?
- I will give my patient a prescription which is a suitable diagnosis for them. I won't be a careless doctor to give a wrong diagnosis of my patient.

Administering of Medicines to the patient :))

2. How does proper administering of medicines help our patients in their recovery?
To answer the questions above, I should first discuss what is Administering medicines to the patients. So, to start, administering medicine to a patient is strictly observed by the home nurse. It is an important task to do for a home nurse. Because it is one of the important cure to fast recovery of the patient. Therefore, a home nurse should be careful of what they're doing in order to help the patient feel more safe.
I have learned many significant insights for the said topic. One is, a home nurse should always be informed about the condition of the patient. Example, if the patient is not feeling well, the home nurse should administer the proper medicine to the patient to make him/her feel better. Second is, a home nurse should be properly trained about the concept of administering medicine to the patient. So that, the home nurse could give what the patient is needing in that moment of time. Lastly, administering medicines to the patient should be in the manner of care. Because we will never know what would the patient feel if the home nurse could administer them the wrong medicine.
Administering medicines to the patient could help in the fast recovery of the patient. We know that in every ill that a patient could feel, there is always a cure like medicine.
